Re: Captured German planes, not from eBay
Nice find Marc! Well done
Even more interesting (to me) are the other photos from the 386BG. Pity this "Kyle Spiritus" is a man of extremely few words, but the action photos of the many B-26Bs are worth waiting for.... Cheers Stig |

Re: Captured German planes, not from eBay
Hi there Gang,
Russian archives do behold fascinating new materials, like this page compiling photos from Eastern front airfields overrun between March and April 1945. https://vk.com/albums-140181428?z=ph...otos-140181428 Any additional information will be highly appreciated. Re: Captured German planes, not from eBay
Hi again Marc,
"Wargen airfield" is todays Kotelnikowo, northwest of Kaliningrad. It is the site of the Chkalovsk air base, but I don't have the time now to look up which german airfield it was. Someone else might help here. "Lindenau airfield" is a little unclear, as there where (at least) two Lindenaus in the Königsberg area. One to the northeast of Königsberg, the other near Heiligenbeil. Neither one was exceptionally close to a Luftwaffe airfield (at least at my first glance). Normally I would venture a guess that this "Lindenau" means Heiligenbeil, but Heiligenbeil airfield is explicitly mentioned in other photo captions from the site you posted, so "Lindenau" might be some different place. Other shots in this soviet collection show Pillau-Neutief. Cheers, Christian |
