Victory Fw. Siegmann 2/NJG 6 12.9.1944

Gents,

Does anyone have any additional info on the above victory?

On 12.09.44 Fw. (First name?) Siegmann of 2./NJG 6 is recorded as shooting down a Lancaster in grid AQ-AR 4.000 m. altitude [Haguenau] at 22.40 hours.

From a quick search it would appear to be Lancaster I LM137 UM-G2 of 626 Sqn. RAF.

It was lost 12/13.9.1944 on a raid to Frankfurt.
Cause of loss not established. Crashed 22:40 at Plittersdorf, 4 km NW of Rastatt. (this is 28 Km east of Haguenau as the crow flies).

Those killed are buried in Durnbach War Cemetery:

F/O D.R.B.Thorpe PoW.
F/O G.T. Bolderston RCAF (2nd Pilot) murdered by civilians.
Sgt F.C. Foster murdered by civilians.
P/O A.C.L. Cox KIA.
F/Sgt S.E. Dunnett murdered by civilians.
Sgt J. Peart PoW.
F/S R.H. Cross PoW.
F/S L.F. Beattie KIA.

Thanks

Ian

Re: Victory Fw. Siegmann 2/NJG 6 12.9.1944

Hello Ian,

These are the claims details that I have (entries taken from the manuscript of the Nachtjagd Combat archive):

Fw. Siegmann: 1 2./NJG6 Lancaster Haguenau, W. River Rhine (AR): 4.000 m. 22.40 626 Sqn Lancaster LM137
Uffz. Karl Ludy: 1 7./NJG101 Fortress II Landau - Baden-Baden area (UR-AR): 4.000 m 22.44 626 Sqn Lancaster LM137. Note: same claim as Fw. Siegmann 22.40 hrs. According to OKL Bruchunterlagen (crash reports) for 12.9.1944, LM137 crashed at Stattmatten (Pl.Q. AR 7) following NF attack at 22.44 hrs. Also claimed by Flak of 1.-3./schw. Flak Abt. 543 (Eisb.) and 4./schw. Flak Abt. 429 (Eisb.) (‘Lancaster Stattmatten Pl.Q. AR 7 22.39 hrs’)

First name of Siegmann regrettably not known (yet).

Do you perhaps have a crew photo of this Lancaster crew?

Cheers, Theo

Thanks for the replies Gents,

Early days so a bit of research to do, however Theo, I have the group to the 2nd pilot on the way. There are some photos but I don't think of this crew unfortunately as it was his first mission with 626 Sqn.

Regards,
Ian
