21 March 1944 - I./JG 26

Gentlemen,

according to Donald Caldwell's splendid JG 26 War Diary - Vol. 2, p 233 - Obfw. Johann Edmann from 4./JG26 was shot down and killed by P-51s on 21 March 1944.

I have no information concerning this loss as neither the WASt reports in my possession nor the GQM Summary Loss Returns mention this loss. Has anybody out there access to the missing information / data and is willing to share it with me ?

KR

Very, very, very late to be (and die) in an A-3, no?

Not very unusual. The last reported A-3 loss of JGr. West was on 31 Aug 44. 6./Erg.JG 1 lost A-3 even as late as on 2 Feb 1945.
There are almost 90 A-3 losses in 1944-45.

Re: 21 March 1944 - I./JG 26

War-weary battlehorses and repaired planes were used up ("aufgebraucht") in school and secondary semi-operational training units like Jagdgruppe West. There are also factory-fresh planes damaged when transferred to the units by FlÜG which appear after repair with such units.
