Could somebody list the StaKas of 2./JG77 in the period of 1940 more or less?

Hello Fran

I have the following:

Oberleutnant Hannes Trautloft from 1 September 1939, Oberleutnant Ekkehard Priebe from 19 September 1939 and Oberleutnant Franz Hahn from 31 August 1940. I./JG 77 was redesignated IV./JG 51 on 21 November 1940.

Now I have a doubt; did wear the 2./JG77 the top hat emblem in a white circle at the rear in the fuse? other sources says I./LG2

Hello Fran

Both are correct, because I(J)/LG2 was redesignated I/JG77 at the beginning of 1942.
This is a different I/JG77, the third one. As Leo says, the first one was at that time IV/JG51 and the second I/JG77, created in 1941 at Norway was redesignated I/JG5 in 1942.

The attached photo depics a Bf109E-3 so the period I am referring to is about 1940. What unit sported the top hat at that time??

It appears that this photograph may depict fighters of 2.(J)/LG 2. I have read that this unit contained numerous former members of the Legion Conder and that its emblem was based upon that of 2./J 88. Here are two further photographs of fighters of 2.(J)/LG 2.

It is the same plane I posted in the same flight so has been colorized. Pictures are stills from b/w IWM footage.
The motto painted in the nose in spanish language suggest the pilot was a L.Condor veteran. Probably Herbert Ihlefeld before being appointed staffelkapitan? other candidates?

Published in LW in Focus #2 is a rather significant transcription of the Bestandsliste/aircraft assignments from 2.(J) and 3.(J)/LG 2 from March-40. Depending upon the date of the photo, much of this information was still valid into the summer of 1940. Sorry, they are out of order due to the way they popped up from the sorting by date of my db. 'Black 11' is among them.
