Question about Werk number

Dear Collegues from Forum,

Please inform in which places and how many was intalled a id plate(s)/Flugzeug Schilds and on which details (engine, fuselage ,.....) with Werk number for German aircrafts:

1) Bf109
2) Fw190

I think about id plate from attachments and like here:
http://www.forcedlandingcollection.s...90/L141-08.jpg

Is it possible that Werk number of aircraft was also mounted on the engine ?
For sure was painted on the fuselage.

Source of second photo (interesting article by the way) look: Horst Walter Petzchler passed away on May 16, 2011
http://www.forcedlandingcollection.s...136-Bf109.html

(This information will be useful for us during legal exploration of places with two German fighters - we have to know how big is probability to find plates with Werk number.)

I see here taht also was mounted in FW190 on the:
http://www.forcedlandingcollection.s...90/L141-07.jpg

another example:

"...The identification tag riveted to the fuselage frame tail section stating 156 and Werk nr. 1816 ..."

Great job team from Norway :

good job !

Re: Question about Werk number

W.-Nr. plates for LW-a/c usually had been riveted in the rear (inside) fuselage section (and in the cockpit section too, i believe)...
It is not reasonable that they had been fitted as well on motors. This would have caused too much efforts by changings/overhaulings during front maintenances etc. Never heard about that.

Re: Question about Werk number

No,

Main werk numbers for the aircraft were never painted or attached to the engine.

On the Me109:

- Port side on an aluminum tag, just in front of the cockpit.
- Starboard fuselage side on a triangular steel disk near the tail.

- Painted on the tail (not always)
- Painted on the rudder (not always)
- Painted inside the fuselage (not always)
- Painted on the coolant tank. (not always)
- Stamped into the alumimum cover just in front of the windscreen (not always)

On the Fw190:

- Port side on an aluminum tag just behind the radio access hatch.

- Painted directives were similar to the Me109 notes written above.

Re: Question about Werk number

Hi Nordpol54,

Mike's information is very good. I can add that the "triangle plate" on the Fw190, marked with the main W.Nr., was attached to a spar within the vertical stabilizer.

I suggest you show any plates you uncover, since it is not impossible that other plates on the airframe (both 190 and 109) also carried the plane's W.Nr.

Examples of 190 plates may be seen here: http://fw190.hobbyvista.com/plates.htm

Good luck,
Steve
