KG40 airmen - 1942-44 period - info required
Some of you, most particularly Chris GOSS and others are experts on KG 40's actvities.
Do you happen to have information about those airmen (non-officers it seems) from that unit, most probably from 1942 onwards. Uffz. NEUHAUS (pilot) - What's his first name? Does someone have details of his crew? machine? Oberfeldwebel GOLLAN (does someone do have his full name and the name of his crew)? machine? PIUS (probably a Beobachter or Air gunner) WITZE (probably a Beobachter or Air Gunner) Thanks a lot Adriano B. |

My book on the Condors of KG 40 is now out but I am away until 1Nov. There will be others who will help but I have quite a bit on the He 111s of II & III Gruppe, the Do 217s of II Gruppe the He 177s of I & II Gruppe & of course V Gruppe

Dear Frans,
Thank you so much for the details regarding Obfw Gollan. Do you happen to know if this was a TRAINING accident (day or night) or a Feindflug (returning from a Combat Sortie)? Anyway, great finding! Adriano B. |

Re: KG40 airmen - 1942-44 period - info required
Colonel BRUGGY,
Understood that the second event is related to some kind of problem while landing (20% damages only and crew OK), back in 1942. Seems to have been a broken landing gear and prop damage...some kind of trouble. The first link though is most welcomed and confirm that it was on a Feindflug that they were killed...probably returning home and flying low, to avoid "Mosquitos" or Intruders?? Thanks anyway for additional data. Adriano B. |

Re: KG40 airmen - 1942-44 period - info required
Gollan was killed on a combat mission; no evidence of Allied aircraft involvement. The other names do not figure with Fw 200s, He 111s or Do 217s which only leaves He 177s and a scan of the NVMs has come up with zero. There is a pilot called Gefr Erich Nauhaus killed with 6./KG 40 on 31 Oct 42

Re: KG40 airmen - 1942-44 period - info required
Chris,
This time (for once), the German Names were easy to read and well written on the back of the Picture. The rank of Uffz. Neuhaus clearly shown. Guess they are all related to Dornier Do 217, since the same seller sold other pictures of Dorniers from KG 40 and a Major and other ranks simultaneously. I only got this set of 5-6 pictures showing some Dornier Do 217 airmen from KG 40, amongst them Uffz. Neuhaus; ? PIUS, ? WITZE and Obfw. Gollan (whose fate was matched and informed here by other members). Thanks anyway for your time and kind assistance. Adriano B. |
