104 Sqn Wellington in encounter with floatplane or flying boat night 2/3 Aug 1941

Hi,

On the night 2/3 August 1941 a 104 Squadron Wellington captained by Sgt Clark was attacked by an enemy aircraft near Emden at 0315 hrs. It was claimed as hit by the rear gunner Sgt Bruce Colin Dreaver, RNZAF.

Another enemy aircraft was encountered off Borkum at 0345 hrs, at 7,000feet. The rear gunner fired 4 bursts. Following the encounter: “Enemy aircraft disappeared and was later seen landing on the sea by the rear gunner, other members of the crew did not observe landing aircraft.” (from the ORB).

I guess the enemy aircraft was a floatplane or flying boat because it was seen landing on the sea. Is there any notes about encounters involving Luftwaffe’s units with floatplane or flying boat this night?

Tanks in advance,
Peter
