Old Bold Luftwaffe pilots meet in Speyer

Attachment 263On October 15th 2005 former Luftwaffe aces Walter Schuck, Hajo Herrmann, Hans-Ekkehard Bob, Ernst Scheufele and Karl-Fritz Schlossstein met in Speyer to sign posters and books. Maybe it interests you, that Hajo is 92 years old and that H.E. Bob, now 87 years, arrived inflight Speyer with his own plane...

The photo shows from the left: Hajo Herrmann, Karl-Fritz Schlossstein (Captain, Bf 110 pilot and group leader of the 13. Z JG 5), Walter Schuck, Ernst Scheufele and H.-E. Bob (JG 54 Grünherzjäger).

Cheers,
Horst

Ernst Scheufele looks pretty tall; wonder how he every fit into a 109?!

Re: Old Bold Luftwaffe pilots meet in Speyer

Hi John,
Ernst himself tells always the story, that he - due to his tallness - was the wrong jockey in the aircrafts of those days. Normally he goes over it with a joke about smaller pilots:

"When you see a Bf 109 passing by without a pilot in it, than you can be sure it's Walter Schuck..."

Nevertheless, Ernst could manage his flights in a Bf 109 as well as in a Fw 190, but please don't ask me how comfortable he felt in them.

All the best,
Horst

I have heard a similar story about a Spitfire taxiing at Northolt, apparently without a pilot. That time it was Skalski.
Out of curiousity, how tall is Mr Scheufele? The tallest Polish fighter pilots that I am awared of their size were around 185. Apparently there were taller pilots like old poor Daff Dafforn.
