Crash location of Hptm Frank Neubert on 30 January 1943

Hello,

All losses I have (including a German loss list and Martin Pegg's Panzerjager book) agree that:

On 30 January 1943, Hauptmann Frank Neubert, the Gruppenkommandeur of II./Sch.G. 1 and a Ritterkreuz bearer, was wounded when his Hs 129 B-2 (W.Nr. 0306) was shot down in flames by Russian AA fire near Skurbiy. His aircraft was destroyed at 90%.

Problem is that I am unable to find a place called Skurbiy (or Skurbij as written in German loss report).

At this date II./Sch.G. 1 was based in Voroshilovgrad, now Luhansk, Ukrain. The crash location might have been close to this base, and most place names in Ukrain have changed since WWII, reverting from "Russian" names to Ukrainian ones, but I have been unable to find a similar location in Luhansk region.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Laurent

Thanks a lot, it seems that the location was one of the numerous villages that disappeared during WWII.

Your help is very appreciated.

Hello Laurent,

it was a small village ~27 km east of Lugansk (exact coordinates 48.51726/39.68391 on Wikimapia)

[Oops, have missed the answer above]

Best regards,
Andrey
