Battle of the Bulge victim
Hello!
Normally my focus is the german Luftwaffe activities, but now I have a question regarding the USAAF in 1944, especially during the Battle of the Bulge in Dec 44/Jan 45. I hope someone can help and answer me. In 1946 there was the so called Malmedy massacre trial, one of the convicted german Waffen-SS officers was Georg Preuss. According to the wikipedia entry "Preuß ... had ordered one of his subordinates to shoot a captured American pilot... For this murder in connection with robbery Preuß was sentenced to death. His death sentence was commuted to life in prison by U.S. military governor Lucius D. Clay in 1949." Is it known which Pilot was killed here? In the files of the trial you can read that he was a texas born officer, but nothing else, no name, no exact date. Maybe shot down around 25 Dec 44 in the Bastogne Area. Thanks in advance! |
