Balken cross for review
Hi to everybody,
I was offered this piece of fabric from a german aircraft that states in the back , written in french, that it was shot down in France in november 1939 so months before the invasion. So it seems a piece from a with of a Storch but without the laquer...so maybe a dummy aircraft? The strange thing is that on November 1939 the Luftwaffe reports some losses on France territories but only big recon aircraft as Do17, He111 and some ME109. So my question is how an aircraft like a Storch with an autonomy of 375km coul possibly flight over Belgium and came back. If the written was added post was to add value to the piece...why choose a weird story like this? And not an easy one like...found somewhere else during the war? Thank you |

Re: Balken cross for review
Only the occasional recce ac were operating over France and Belgium that early in the war and certainly no fabric aircraft. Notice Hazebrouck, which is one hell of a way from the German/French border, appears to be written in biro.......Caveat emptor yet again

Re: Balken cross for review
I can only find records of two crashed Fi 156's in November 1939 and both of those crashed in accidents on German territory, one at Braunschweig and one at Frankfurt Rhein/Main.

Re: Balken cross for review
Thanks for the quick replies... other things I noticed is also that the cross is painted probably with spray and I see no laquer coat... so maybe from a dummy aircraft? Or from a Glider DSF 230 ?
