Looked only at October & November 1944.

A list of Spitfire Mk. IX's lost in October/November 1944.

Given as -
For example
aa
123 - 123 - 12-3-1944
Serial number - Squadron - Date.

There were others but they were not in the Middle East.

AB serial numbers

Better known as -

Air Britain RAF Serial number Book series AA100 through to ZZ999.

Hit by flak. Pilot baled out over sea about five miles from the Albanian coast, seen to get into his dinghy. ASR searches located the pilot but Walrus unable to land. Later searches failed to re-locate him.

NZ412283 F/O (Pilot) Allen John SYKES RNZAF - Missing, presumed dead.

Commemorated on the Malta Memorial.

The info you have provided may well be correct, I do not dispute it.
