National Archives Kew
Hi,
I am looking to go back to Kew in order to obtain copies of the individual crew members summarised reports following each bombing raid, they usually follow the 540s/ORBs This relates to 44 Squadron crews between 1st June 1941 and 31st January 1942. I am sure they are covered under Air 27/448. 1. Are these now available online or do I still need to go in person? 2. Does anyone have these reports already that may be prepared to share copies of approximately 33 of them? Many thanks in advance, David

See here: https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...ils/r/C2503083
AIR 27 has been digitised and you can browse everything online although the images are watermarked (usually covering the word or number you particularly needed!) but when viewing in full-screen mode things are pretty readable nonetheless. I'm not familiar with this Squadron's records but I see that AIR 27/453 is the ORB Appendices for 1940–47, so you might want to check those out for crew reports. You can download the material (without watermarks) at £3.50 per monthly "summary of events" or "record of events". If you go to to Kew they are free however: in effect you sit a terminal, follow the instructions to select the items you want, then email everything to yourself. Even if you are going to Kew, a bit of online reconnaissance beforehand can save you time once there. |

Re: National Archives Kew
Hi Nick,
Thank you very much for the information. I haven't been there for a good few years and am a bit rusty. Will give the link a go, thanks again, David

A heads-up for if/when you do go next, they've introduced charges there for the car park. Ian |

Re: National Archives Kew
Hi Ian,
Thanks for that. It's been rumoured for some time now, so they've finally done it! Even more reason to do it online. I'll check the website for the prices, Thanks, David

The area is well served by buses, overground and underground trains.

Yes, they started talking about it several years ago. It's an ANPR system so you have to pay inside before leaving. Ian |
