Fake photo? -Me 163 with B-17
Found this photo online, looks intriguing but fake. The B-17 is a B-17F, mostly gone by the time the Luftwaffe started using the Me163.
It could be a Luftwaffe propaganda shoot using a captured B-17? Last edited by kaki3152; 15th September 2017 at 05:23. |

Re: Fake photo? -Me 163 with B-17
There is something strange with the looks of the B-17. The first part of the tail fin is too high and there appears to be some smoke alike effect over the port engines...

Most likely a shot taken from a propaganda or training film. Not a real event.

Re: Fake photo? -Me 163 with B-17
There is a rotatable view of a B-17 G here:
https://hum3d.com/360-view/?id=165468 This is a B-17G (not an F) and you can't move vertically up and down but you can rotate it to get the proper view angle. It looks to me that when you are at the correct angle the left wing would end at about the same place as the left horizontal stabilizer. That is, the left wing would either block your view of the left horizontal stabilizer or if the stabilizer was visible (above or below the wing) the stabilizer would end even with the left wing tip. The photo does not show that, it is like the whole tail of the plane has been twisted toward the viewer to project out beyond the wing, so I think it is fake. It is probably two photos of a B-17, a front half and a back half stuck together or a front half photo with a drawing for the back. However it was done, the viewing angles of the front and back don't seem match up. Last edited by RSwank; 27th July 2017 at 12:37. |

Re: Fake photo? -Me 163 with B-17
I think Revi16 is the closest as the B-17 looks like one of the wartime models used in training films. So not a fake exactly just a still from a film that used dodgy models!
