Re: Karl Ebbighausen photo

Maciej did you see all Bf109Es of II./JG26 that were on hand at this time?
For me these photos show two different aircraft: one with bull and another with row of flags. I know somebody who saw the entire collections of Don Caldwell (and believe me his JG26`s collection is huge) and he did not make so strong statement as you.

Regards

Robert

Re: Karl Ebbighausen photo

This isn't a row of flags (what flags would it be at that time? not too many countries to be "visited"), but the 'Eisern, aber irre' motto. Which was apparently applied earlier than the raging bull

Re: Karl Ebbighausen photo

My mistake but it still doesn`t look to be the same aircraft - different emblems, different aircraft numbers.

Robert

Re: Karl Ebbighausen photo

The above photo serves only as an example of 'Eisern, aber irre' presence on an 5./JG 26 aircraft, and shows that the bull emblem was applied after it. In case of 'Red 1', probably due to lack of space caused by the presence of the Mickey emblem, the bull had to replace the motto. I do not dare to say that the bull was a short-lived 5./JG 26 emblem, but there exists photo evidence of its presence on a number of Staffel's aircraft (1, 3, 7[?], 10, 12, 15) apparently during summer of 1939, which means that it rather wasn't just a personal emblem of Ebbighausen, as had been stated in the past publications. BTW, how many examples of fighters carrying more than one personal emblem are known?

Re: Karl Ebbighausen photo

Hi,

I checked my collection and I think I have a distance shot of "red 1" with MM and bull emblem and white tail band. A "red 3" is in the foreground sporting "diving raven" emblem.
I have also a photo of "red 3" with this motto but without "diving raven" or "bull" emblem.
A big "Misch-Masch".

Regards

Robert

Re: Karl Ebbighausen photo

Very interesting, especially the 'Red 3' with Hans Huckebein emblem present at the same time as the bull on 'Red 1', as 'Red 3' is also documented to carry the bull at some point. Can you show the mentioned photos?

Re: Karl Ebbighausen photo

They are not my photos so I can't. Sorry. BTW there is a rumor that "bull" emblem was carried also by "white 12"?

Robert
