Walrus, FAA 700 Sqdn, 18/05/1940
Who can enlighten me with the serial number of this Walrus, it's Squadron code, its mission and identity of its attacker?
18/05/1940: ?, Norway Type: Walrus Serial number: ?, -? Operation: ?, Norway Lost: 18/05/1940 Lieutenant Ronald W. Benson-Dare, RN, H.M.S. Devonshire [700 Sqdn.], age 23, 18/05/1940, missing Midshipman A D.Corkhill wounded, rescued Leading Airman William H. Hill, RN FX/55056, H.M.S. Devonshire [700 Sqdn.], age 31, 18/05/1940, Tromso Cemeterty, Norway (died of wounds) Heavy cruiser Devonshire's 700 Squadron Walrus was shot down by a German He.111 aircraft at Malangsfjord, Rystraumer Crashed. Nice to be able to help you for a change! My records show that the Walrus was P8647 and the attacker was from 1(F)/122, but identity of Heinkel crew unknown to me. Hope this helps. Cheers Brian |
