Nothing whatsoever on Lt. Bates in Tom Ivie's Aerial Reconnaissance: The 10th Photo Recon Group in World War II.
I just re-read the pages covering 18 through 20 March 1945 in the book, then I checked the index and Bates doesn't even appear there. Last edited by SteveR; 21st January 2022 at 03:41. Reason: Added two words and the year. |

Re: Bates Fred H 10PRG/155PRS - Jackson William E 448BG/715BS KIA Belgium
There is S/Sgt William E. Jackson Jr. (15102452) of 448th BG/715th BS, but this man buried at Cambridge American Cemetery with date of death 9 May 1944...
He probably was part of crew of 42-73497 at Seething on 22 April 1944 when a/c was shot up by a German Me-410 and B-24 made crash landing, all crew survived. As for Lt. Frederick Hiram Bates (0-826636): his death most likely due to an encounter with a German night fighter a few days before at Le Culot. See this 'old' thread: http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/archiv...p?t-15893.html in which Lt Bates is mentioned. Groet, Leendert Last edited by Leendert; 21st January 2022 at 11:16. |
