Re: A ?? RE: Neil Page's new book

My copy arrived yesterday; I'll second everything Leon said about it and add that Neil has done an excellent job of bringing out the "human" aspect in what I guess you'd call human interest stories.

Very much looking forward to the next volume!

And no, I don't know/haven't ever communicated with Neil Page either. I'm now a big fan of this series though!

Re: A ?? RE: Neil Page's new book

Hello,
I would like to know if this book is a collection of articles written by others or partially? The chapter about II/JG 77 is a translation from the one from J.-L. Roba isn't it?

Not a collection. Most of the content is written by Neil with pilot accounts translated from German. Perhaps two are by other authors.

Re: A ?? RE: Neil Page's new book

Hi,

two of the ten features could be said to have appeared previously (one in French, one in German) - here they differ quite a bit from the originals with 'new' photos and 'new' accounts in both..

Thanks for your answer FalkeEins.
Your book is a nice read and I enjoyed it. It is no problem for me if other (co)authors are contributing to your work. But please, name them like you did in the case of the Kaschuba's article. It's important for me to know which authors perspective I am reading.

Re: A ?? RE: Neil Page's new book

Hello
I have the same questions as Messcaster: having received Neil Page's book, I was struck by the similarities with parts of books or articles published in the past. I think e.g. of the von Winterfeldt bio. Doesn't it come from an old article of the French magazine AVIONS? Or the quotes of Luftwaffe veterans like: Edu Neumann, Fritz Losigkeit, Eberhard Burath, Jorst Jaeckel...Did the author really meet and interview them as the presentation of the book would lead one to believe? I would also like to be reassured. Thank you in advance for the insights.
Phil

..absolutely not. I wasn't even aware that 'Avions' had done an article on vW. Of what and why do you need to be 'reassured' ?? Who claimed I met anyone?
Of course - as most 'writers' would admit - it would be impossible to put together something like 'Luftwaffe Fighters' without the help of others. But that help 'only' extended to pointing out sources, sending through copies of old correspondence, diary excerpts, photos etc etc. If you're the Belgian 'Phil' then it might interest you to know that I have acquired a certain amount of Armand van Isohoven's vets letters. And as far as I know vW only kept one diary and he definitely didn't write it in English. See the acknowledgements section. As Alfred Price once told me you don't have the space or time to footnote and thank each individual contribution.

Re: A ?? RE: Neil Page's new book

Hi,

I thoroughly enjoyed the book and thought it was full of mostly previously unpublished photos and stories of individuals I had not read about before.

My only criticism is that I would want more but understand just how time consuming putting together a book like this must be.

Excellent.

Rick

Another vote for this bookazine - really very enjoyable and well put together. Lots of interesting and new (to me) interviews and features. Thanks Neil
