surviving Battle of Britain participants from Axis air forces
Hi all,
Does anyone know if there are any surviving aircrew from the Axis air forces that participated in the Battle of Britain? I know that Paddy Hemingway is still alive from the RAF but wondered if there were any survivors from the German or Italian Forces. Kind regards Gerry |

I think the last Luftwaffe ace from the BoB was Hans-Ekkehard Bob.

Re: surviving Battle of Britain participants from Axis air forces
All of my contacts are no longer with us or so old and not well, their families do not want them contacted. The youngest acquaintance of mine was Werner Karl from 1./JG 53 who was 20 when taken POW would be over 100 now if he had not succumbed to cancer some years ago. His family did not maintain contact after he passed which seems to be the norm

Thanks for your replies,
I wasn't looking to contact them, I just wondered if there were any survivors. Many thanks once again Gerry |

Hi Gerry,
Ludwig Piller was the last one I was aware of, but he passed away recently at the age of 106. Cheers, Andrew A. Air War Publications - www.airwarpublications.com/earticles |

There is a name from the past. The KG 51 Association put me in touch with Ludwig and he was most helpful, getting his Secretary to reply to my letters!

I remember Werner Karl, he was also most helpful. I think he even sent me an original photo from his album.
