Me 109 K firepower
I was wondering, everywhere i read about the Me 109 K it tells me it was armed w/ one 30mm cannon and two 15mm cannons. Were those just separate packages or were they a single combination that was used all at once?

Re: Me 109 K firepower
The K did have the 30mm firing through the spinner and 2 x 13mm in the upper cowling. They could fire all at once or separately as selected by the pilot.

Re: Me 109 K firepower
The 15mm cowl guns is an old myth originating to the William Green books and unfortunately repeated ever since. Its probably a misread of MG 131 from GLC or other poor copy quality datasheets.
The K-4 was also cleared for 500 kg bombs as opposed to the G series (probably only because the long tailwheel was standard and gave ample ground clearance, while on the G-series it was almost accidental wheter short or long t/w was fitted). However German documentation is absolutely clear that the 109K-4`s only armament was the hub 30mm MK 108 cannon, the two cowl 13mm MG 131s, and the optional 20mm gondola cannons under the wings. The MK 103mot was planned for later, not realized K-series as hub cannon, and also either 20mm MG 151/20 or 30mm MK 108 armament was planned to be installed inside the wings certain heavy fighter versions of the K-seres (K-6, K-14 etc.)

Re: Me 109 K firepower
Hi!
Just a quick note on the G tailwheel No G-14/U-4 or G-10/U4 had the long tail wheel as the factories making the U4's were not in supply of it at the time . Last edited by harrison987; 13th May 2008 at 23:04. |

Re: Me 109 K firepower
Thanks, i thought those two 15mm cannons were a myth. But that 30mm defines the K series.
