Bf 110 (possibly ZG 76) coded +LN Brauchlandung
Good morning to all!
Maybe John Manhro can help or match this one....probably on one of his BF 110 books. Is there the record of a Brauchlandung (crash landing) for a Bf 110 C (possibly from ZG 76) coded + LN ? Photos do show this machine on its back being recovered by a party of mechanics with trucks. I can distinguish the codes LN inverted on one of the photos....but not the werknummer...neither the Geschwader codes either... The crew probably survived too...although the area is surrounded by huge trees. Am assuming they suffered some kind of engine malfunction and tried to land onto one of the roads (which seems to be large enough for a Bf 110 to land). Any thoughts or comments most welcomed. Re: Bf 110 (possibly ZG 76) coded +LN Brauchlandung
Just some thoughts,
The aircraft appears to have been dragged or placed into a scrapping area with other aircraft. The propellers would be difficult to remove with the aircraft still in the inverted position. (Why would you remove damaged propellers?) Wheels and brakes have also been removed. Is it possible that the aircraft was inverted in the scrapping process and not a landing accident? This might explain "good" propellers being removed? |

I am sure you got me confused with John Vasco. My interest is really JG 6....I stumbled on a lot of ZG data as a consequence of that....

John MANRHO,
Yes I mistake you with VASCO. Please do forgive me. I do have one of his books about LG 1 and early NJG 3, Zerstörer) but not at hand now. VASCO is indeed the Bf 110 expert. Sorry about that, really....big mistake of my part! A. |

John didn't write the book on V./LG 1 that was Ludwig Von Eimannsberger. John has written a number of other books though

von Eimannsberger was the nephew of Horst Liensberger, Gruppenkommandeur of V.(Z)/LG 1. One of the most enthusiastic people I have ever had contact with. Ludwig died way too young...

Re: Bf 110 (possibly ZG 76) coded +LN Brauchlandung
Hello
Those are the machines from II/SKG 210 that I found with S9+?N code. From those, 3 are good candidates for the second picture, however I do not have the % of damage sustained by those machines. This is the list Erhard, Wilfried Lt 5/SKG-210 (S.U.) Bf 110E-2 Werk # 3765 "S9 +FN" (lost 8/20/41) Destroyer Operational Clasp KIA with unnamed crew 20 August, 1941 ay Babino, cause unknown. Bf 110 Loss List Fromme, Fritz Lt 5/SKG-210 Bf 110D-3 Werk # 3716 "S9 +IN" (lost 6/25/41) Assault Operational Clasp KIA 25 June, 1941 after being hit by flak over an undisclosed location in Russia. His unnamed gunner also KIA. Bf 110 Loss List Hemetter, Georg Uffz 5/SKG-210 (S.U.) Bf 110 Loss List Hilcher, Gerhard Uffz 5/SKG-210 (S.U.) Bf 110 Loss List Klinke, Reginald Lt Stab/SKG-210 (S.U.) Bf 110 E-2 Werk # 3775 "S9 + DN" (lost 7/15/41) Destroyer Operational Clasp MIA 15 July, 1941 at Roslawl, but returned, no cause reported. His R/O, Ofw Dreiholz was KIA. Bf 110 Loss List Lölhöffel von Löwensprung, Helmut Oblt 5/SKG-210 (S.U.) His unnamed R/O returned. An original entry stated he was KIA 12/9/41, however, a subsequent entry lists him MIA 11 February, 1942! Both entries per Bf 110 Loss List Moldaschel, Franz Uffz 5/SKG-210 (S.U.) Bf 110E-2 Werk # 4489 "S9 + EN" (lost 7/22/41) Destroyer Operational Clasp MIA with unnamed crew 22 July, 1941 near Jelnja, no further detail. Bf 110 Loss List Neumann, Günther Uffz 5/SKG-210 (S.U.) This Wk# may be in error as Lt Robert Mautner was reported MIA in a Wk# 4484 (4/SKG-210) on 7/25/41 at Briansk. John and Chris, the book I do have from VASCO is that one enclosed...guess I did a mistake about the other one from LG 1 History... Last edited by Adriano Baumgartner; 12th August 2020 at 20:10. |
