info on loss 1586 E.S.P. Halifaxes JP295 and JP171 27/28.8.1944
Dear all,
For the NJWD 2nd ed. research, I am looking for any info on the loss of 1586 E.S.P. Halifaxes JP295 and JP171, both failed to return from supply dropping missions to Warsaw on 27-28 August 1944. I am looking especially for any info on the exact crash locations, time and cause of loss of both these aircraft. (I have the crew details already). Cheers and thanks for any help, Theo |

Downloadable PDF (<3 Mo) : Listing of Allied Aircraft lost on Special Duty Operations PDF in chronological order http://www.aircrewremembered.com/raf1944/widacki.html http://www.geocities.ws/skrzydla/301/Document1.html 26/27 AUG JD362 JN895 (borrowed from 148 Sqdn?) 27/28 AUG JD171 not JP171 JP295 (borrowed from 148 Sqdn) Some of the halifaxes lost with polish crews were borrowed from 148 Sqdn, hence codes were FS rather than GR if worn. |

Theo,
According to Interrogation Report of Sgt Danilkiewicz, the only surivor of the crew of Halifax JD171, they were shot down by flak near Mohacs close to Hungarian-Yugoslavian border. It`s not too much but I hope it helps, Regards, Greg Last edited by Gregor30; 13th February 2016 at 13:11. Reason: typo |

Halifax JP295 (FS-P) crashed in Banica (now Krzywa) near Gorlice. Shot down by a night fighter from 1./NJG 100 at. 2.33. The aircraft was loaned from 148. Sqn.

Dear all,
Many thanks for these details, most useful indeed! I can confirm that the Nachtjäger of 1./NJG100 shooting down JP295 was Ofw. Rudi Düding; it was his 11th confirmed kill, his claim was confirmed by Luftflotte 6 on 10 October 1944. Cheers, Theo |

Hello Kelvin,
Thanks for your reply -what I am still looking for is a good quality photo (preferably one from a private source and not widely published before) of a 1586 E.S.P. Halifax, for publication in the NJWD 2nd edition. You can contact me by PM, cheers, Theo |
