Fighter activity off the English Coast June 29th 1941
Hi,
Trying to establish who, or what units were operating on the night of June 29th 1941. A number of aircraft returning from Bremen had encounters with JU88's off the English Coast. No.218 Squadron recorded three encounters with JU88 between 03.30hrs and 04.40hrs. Any information welcome. TIA Steve

29-30 Jun 41 there were claims over the North Sea for 4./NJG 1 (2) and 1./NJG 2. Closer to the British coast it would have probably been I./NJG 2

Re: Fighter activity off the English Coast June 29th 1941
Steve,
According to the Appendix in Simon Parry's "Intruders over Britain" there were two claims made by I./NJG 2 on 30/06/41. Unfortunately no times are given. Fw Arnold - Wellington over North Sea Ofw. Jung - Wellington over North Sea No further mention in the main text of the book. However, Tony Wood's files give the following 30.06.41 Fw. Helmut Arnold: n.b. 1./NJG 2 Wellington [2336] 60 km. N.E. Bacton: 800 m. 03.50 Film C. 2033/I Anerk: Nr.7 30.06.41 Ofw. Jung: 2 4./NJG 2 Wellington 200 km. E.S.E. Grimsby [3471] 04.14 Film C. 2031/I Nr.65979/41

Re: Fighter activity off the English Coast June 29th 1941
The other North Sea claim was by Ofw Paul Gildner of 4./NJG 1 for a Whitley. The NJG 2 claims were for Wellingtons and probably refer to the 40 and 300 Sqn losses. They would not have claimed for any aircraft damaged
