Smile FAIREY BATTLE Mk.I - L5524 - 150 Sqn - shot down 13 june 1940

Hello to all,

I'm looking forward to have more informations about this FAIREY BATTLE Mk.I serial L5524 from 150 squadron coded JN-

Crew :
P/O Alfred GULLEY pilot
LAC Donald L. PHILLIPS radio
Sgt J. H. BERRY observer

shot down by Me-109s and aircraft crashed in Aigleville, south of Evreux, Department of Eure, Normandy. Both BERRY and PHILLIPS managed to evade capture but the pilot was killed in action. I'm seeking any info about the two airmen who managed to evade capture like their E&E reports. I would like also to see pictures about those men and if any member have a pic about the wreckage it would be very much appreciated. Here attached a picture of the L5524 wreckage.
Thanks in advance.
Best regards
Loïc

Re: FAIREY BATTLE Mk.I - L5524 - 150 Sqn - shot down 13 june 1940

Battle L5524. Shot down by Uffz Vollmer of 3./JG3 during attack on enemy columns between Vernon and Evreux, crash-landed and burned out near Aigleville 9.30 a.m. Pilot Officer A. R. Gulley killed. Sergeant H. Berry and LAC D. L. Phillips both captured badly wounded. Aircraft a write-off.
The date of death of Alfred Gulley is recorded by the CWGC as June 14. LAC Donald Phillips was later reported in hospital in Amiens but subsequently escaped and successfully evaded eventually returning to England via Gibraltar aboard SS Aquila. He was the first RAF airman to be awarded the Military Medal for escape and evasion. Due to the severity of his wounds Sgt Berry was repatriated to England on May 19, 1941.

To be completely clear; Berry was badly burnt on face and hands, escaped from a hospital in ROUEN on 13 Sept 1940, then proceded South via Paris, crossing 'the line' on 24 Jan 1941, passed by the Mixed Medical Board on 21 March for repatriation, left from Gibraltar 2 June.
