Quote:
Something is strange about KB818: you indicate that she crashed landed at Ford but according to AIR 27/1858/27, she was planned to be part of the raid over Goch but she do not appear on the listed particpating lancasters. Only ten Lancaster are listed on the 7/8 February. An other point: in the same document, it is mentioned that she was not serviceable two days before due to several equipement u/s. Re: Loss of aircraft during Goch raid, February 7, 1945
Hi Franck,
Chorley wrote "In the preamble to the notes concerning this operation, reported in 431 Sqn ORB, SE-G is shown as a participating aircraft. However in the reports that follow, no details of the Lancaster or its crew, are given." Mea culpa, Dave |

Re: Loss of aircraft during Goch raid, February 7, 1945
KB-818 had both inner engines fail shortly after takeoff. Landed long and was ground looped at the end of the runway as they were not sure of what was straight ahead.
Hope this helps. I have the accident report, court of inquiry and photo. |
