Re: James Bernice Cain VF-45
Cain certainly was a star performer. Service in WW2 and Korea, test pilot, CV commander... his life both personal and military was full of events

Re: James Bernice Cain VF-45
On reading "Tidal Wave: from Leyte Gulf to Tokyo Bay" by the excellent and very readable Mr Thomas McKelvey Cleaver (who is my go-to guy on Pacific History) I find Cain claimed a "probable" Tony after shooting down an Aichi D3a-Model 22 of Kamikaze Tokubetsu Kōgekitai, Dai 1 Hachiman-Gokō-tai or Kamikaze Tokubetsu Kōgekitai, Dai 1 Seitō-tai or Kamikaze Tokubetsu Kōgekitai, Dai 1 Kusanagi-tai. Cain then claimed three Zekes, probably two A6M5 and a "Hamp" (an A6M2 bomb carrier?).
This unconfirmed victory is not listed in the accounts I have found. regards Keith |
