Fighting in Yugoslavia (using Ju87s) after VE day?
from the Cybermodeler review of "Guerrilla Nightmare" by Veres:
"A Yugoslav source, for instance, claims that “the last known Ju 87 combat sortie in the biggest human conflict in history” occurred 28 May 1945 – against diehard “German and Chetnik forces refusing to surrender”. That’s a full 20 days after Nazi Germany’s unconditional surrender." Fact or typo? Richard |

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bleiburg_repatriations I would not think there would be any reason for the Yugoslav forces to use the Ju 87, however, since they had been supplied with attack aircraft by the Soviet Union. Regards, Dan

Re: Fighting in Yugoslavia (using Ju87s) after VE day?
I am currently reading the book and there's LOTS of typo which make the reading quite painful. If you want I can have a look in the book, but I'm not sure it will help you.
Edit: The text indeed say 28 May. Last edited by Alfred.MONZAT; 26th June 2019 at 17:11. |

Re: Fighting in Yugoslavia (using Ju87s) after VE day?
It is a typo, but not big.
Main Yugoslav air forces were at the time busy chasing Germans to Austria and Italy. Two Yugoslav RAF squadrons, operating with rest of BAF gave support to drive to Trieste, and soviet supplied aircraft helped in push to Zagreb. In Bosnia at the time were remnants of chetnik forces with Draza Mihailovic, trying to push back to Serbia, and minor ustasa forces in some northern cities (like Odzak). Those groups were not priority in Tito's plans. From May 6th they were attacked by Mixed squadron from Mostar airfield (comprised from trophy aircraft). From May 6 to May 25 Mixed squadron flew: Caproni Ca-313 - 47 missions Dornier Do-17, K-14 - 42 missions Junkers Ju-87 - 34 missions Messerschmit Me-109 - 5 missions F. P. 2 - 5 missions From May 8th, group of Il-2 joined them Attacks until May 15th were against chetniks, following by relocation and attack against ustase in Odzak. |

Thank you for an excellent post and for correcting my misunderstanding. How many captured Stukas did the Yugoslav forces possess? Kind regards, Dan

In this squadron was one, captured at Rajlovac airfield, broken but repaired quickly.
Additionally, two more were obtained in similar manner, but I am not sure they were used in final operations. |

Re: Fighting in Yugoslavia (using Ju87s) after VE day?
One B-2 (W.Nr.0406) fitted with a glider towing attachment was captured by the partizan army (NOVJ).Yugoslav pilots flew it for a few months after the war's end with the inscription "Aeroplanska Radionica-Pancevo on the tail and the serial Black 9801.
One D-5 (W.Nr. ?) was also captured damaged, made airworthy with parts cannibalised from others, and incorparated in the NOVJ Air Force. Michel |

Similar event.
According to one Russian book Bostons of 449 BAP (244 BAD) attacked German 6th and 8th Army troops, refusing to surrender, in Austria on 13.5.1945. I did not find any confirmation for that in 17 VA, 244 BAD, or 449 BAP documents. Zoran |
