A possible K.G.200 candidate
With Reference to HW 5/491 there is a report from a Luftwaffe workshop at Celle about a Mustang received on 26. May 1944. The Serial number was given as 36805 and completion of work stated to be uncertain. The actual work required was brake repairs.
Some Google research gave the following information: North American P-51B Mustang ser.no. 43-6805 and HO-C "Marjorie II" of 487 Fighter Squadron, 352 Fighter Group, was lost to groundfire and crashed at Grosz Helen, Kreis Celle on 24. May 1944. The pilot Lt. James D. Hannon was taken POW. If the plane "survived" the accident with no more than brake problems, it could be a candidate aircraft for K.G.200. Can anyone provide further information. |

Re: A possible K.G.200 candidate
Unfortunately, the earliest Abschuss on the document being quoted from is 28 August 1944. Even more unfortunately, it seems to be the only listing of this sort.

Re: A possible K.G.200 candidate
Hi, as far as I can see the earliest date for Mustangs is July 18th 1944.
There are other documents - but they are single aircraft related only. Regards, Andreas B

Re: A possible K.G.200 candidate
Andreas - Interesting. The document I was thinking of is the 'Instandsetzung von Feindlugzeugen 15.3.45' so possibly a slightly different one to the one you're quoting from as the first entry on this is for a B-17 28.8.44.
Edit - Scratch that - It's the same document. I see the Mustang you're referring to halfway down page two in the midst of the 1945 entries. |

Re: A possible K.G.200 candidate
The one I have always wondered about was No. 25 on Andreas' list. The only I can make out from the following sequence "6 Z Star, E 24 8 34, FG 798" is that it is a USAAF (star) Mustang.

Re: A possible K.G.200 candidate
Andreas
Two dates are odd in your list. Check id no 25 and their dates. You have it assigned to Focke Wulf before it had crashed.... Perhaps a switch between the dates? Cheers Stig |
