Re: Fairey Battle identity

Dave, rm is the abreviation for Raum, which like you guessed correcly means area, or near. Danny

Re: Fairey Battle identity

Location is close to Boulogne so I had presumed it is one of the three Boulogne raid losses post BoF - two from 142 Squ & one from 12 Squ.
Photos of one of the other 142 Squ losses (QT-L) on the beach at Boulogne crop up quite regularly.
I don't have my copy of Chorley with me but should be straightforward to look up the possibilities.

regards

Iain

Re: Fairey Battle identity

Thank you Iain. I to believe that it is post BoF crash. The Boulogne raid on 19/20 August 12sdn lost P6597 the crew POWs. Then next Boulonge raid on 22/23 August 142sdn lost L5503 2 POWs 1 Killed and L5582 2 Killed 1 POW. The only Battle photo i have seen on a beach has no rear fuselarge, see attachment.

Thanks

Dave
