H2X B-17GSH

Who knows whee the letters GSH stand for? They were used for H2X equipped B-17's.

Re: H2X B-17GSH

Take a look at this:
http://www.wdnorton.nl/B-17GSH%2042-3468%20Invictus.htm

I think these were B-17Gs with the H2X radar mounted in the nose behind the chin turret as is shown in a photo above. I think the SH related to this odd radar setup.

Re: H2X B-17GSH

Thanks! Yes definitely it refers to the H2X radar. The earlier models were modified F's (top G standard). That would explain the 'G' but now the 'S' and the 'H': where do they stand for...?

Re: H2X B-17GSH

Cees,

The question was also discussed here: http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showthread.php?t=7379

Suggestion is that the SH suffix refers to the radar system.

Groet,

Leendert

Re: H2X B-17GSH

The "S" and "H" may have come from the H2S name for the British radar. As to what they "mean" there is a discussion of the possible meanings of H2S see the "etymology" section here:
