Two Fw 200s suffered slight damage due to a low-level attack on the airfield-can anyone say who might have been the attacker?

Hi Chris,

Nothing in the Day Bomb Raid Sheets of Bomber Command (assuming it's a daylight attack)

Perhaps a unit of 18 Group Coastal Command or a Naval Air Squadron was responsible for this?

Regards,
Hans

Re: Vaernes 8 Sep 42

Looked through Jurgen Rohwer's War at Sea 1939-1945 and did not find any reference to British carrier operations off of Norway at this time so that seems to rule out FAA units. So looking at Coastal Command may be the best bet.

Hi again Chris,

I've checked some Squadron ORBs under 18 Group command, alas to no avail. I don't have 42 and 608 Squadron ORB, perhaps a Beaufort of the former or Hudson of the latter were involved.

Regards,
Hans

Andy:

Thanks but I have the KG 40 info hence my question 'who dunnit'! However, Ed North has solved the puzzle. They had been attacked by 33 FS and 50 FS over Iceland, one landed Vaernes, the other Oerlandet
