The Honourable David Arthur Coke
Dear All,
Does anyone happen to know who shot down the Honourable David Arthur Coke on December 9, 1941? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Coke By the way, is there any more detailed biography of him, apart from the Wikipedia article? Thank you very much in advance. |

Re: The Honourable David Arthur Coke
A short biography of him appears on page 111 of Those Other Eagles, by Christopher Shores (Grub Street, 2004). There are also references to Coke in A History of the Mediterranean Air War, Volume 1 (Shores, et al), Air War for Yugoslavia, Greece and Crete 1940-41 (Shores, et al), and Dust Clouds in the Middle East (Shores), all published by Grub Street.
MAW1 also lists the German claims for December 9, 1941. Enjoy! Frank.

Re: The Honourable David Arthur Coke
Dear Frank,
Thank you very much for your answer. Unfortunately, these books are not available in Polish libraries, nor can they be bought at online bookshops, and I don't think I would be able to afford to buy them, for example, at Amazon.com. Would you, please, be so kind as to scan or take digital photos of the pages about David Coke and send them to me by e-mail? I might give you my address. Thank you very much in advance. |

Re: The Honourable David Arthur Coke
By the way, Kenneth G. Wynn in Men of the Battle of Britain says that, after David got wounded on August 12, 1940, he was posted to RAF Debden on September 12 still as non-effective sick and returned to the squadron on September 27.
https://books.google.pl/books?id=3_x...%20RAF&f=false They say he had his finger amputated, but why was he non-effective sick so long? Poor David, did he have any complications from his wound...? |

Re: The Honourable David Arthur Coke
Hi Teresa Maria
It would seem that David Coke was shot down by either Uffz Hans Niederhofer or Uffz Horst Reuter of 5./JG27 (re MAW Volume I) Hope this helps. Best Brian |

Dear Brian,
Thank you very much for your answer. (Poor David, I wish he hadn't been shot down at all!) |
