Bf 109G-6 TL+DR

Hi,

Can somebody explain me (explain us) the difference or the reason why these two different machines wear the same Stkz.
One TL+DR known photo in Jet & Prop 3/97, p.8, photo; Menke, SKZ list (??? I suppose not having the original source) A Regensburg machine
One TL+DR machine from eBay auction, a WNF machine.
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Foto-Messersc...3D263044354858
...
What the hell did happen here?
Thanks in advance.

Regards, Franck.

Re: Bf 109G-6 TL+DR

Hi

Are they really different planes ?
I see a different painting, but both planes are Bf 109 G-6.
TL + DR was WNr. 18378, built by Mtt-Regensburg in May 1943.

best wishes
JoMe

Damaged Bf109G-6, updated with new FuG (Peilrahmen), re-applied StKz during repair, worn-out and repaired (overpainted tactical markings) camouflage?

Re: Bf 109G-6 TL+DR

I am quite an illiterate when it comes to codes but could one be a Stammkennzeichen (STKZ) and other be Überführungskennzeichen (ÜKZ) (or what would probably translate into "Transfer code")?
STKZs were applied to a machine forever & if understood well ÜKZs were re-used and applied by construction companies / makers and didn't have anything with "call signs".
Forgive me for my ignorance. just trying to put possibilities out.

(I am just not sure if ÜKZs existed after 1939?)

Re: Bf 109G-6 TL+DR

Hi Milos,

TL+DR was no Überführungskennzeichen for two reasons:

1 A characteristic of the Überführungskennzeichen was that the last two letters on principle were composed of a consonant and a vowel (A, E, I, O, U).
D and R are consonants.

2 The RLM hat introduced the Überführungskennzeichen with a decree from September 23, 1937. With the introduction of the Stammkennzeichen in October 1939 the Überführungskennzeichen were insignificant.

Regards
Leo

Hello Leo!
Thanks for your explanation. I was remembering something about the dates (and 1939 was somehow connected to it) but was not 100% sure.

but the part under >point 1< was unknown to me (or I completely forgot about it since I read these things, so thank you!:

Hello Milos,

for great details I recommend the link "adl-luftfahrthistorik.de" > Frühere Artikel > Überführungskennzeichen 1937-1939 (Karl Kössler).
There is a revised version of the original article in JET&PROP Januar/Februar 2002 Heft 6/01.

Regards
Leo
