And yet another for Kirill/Gabor/Anders?

Hi guys

On 15 September 1942, a Pe-2 of 95-IAP flown by Kapt Lev Puzanov and Lyt Dmitry Fedorov failed to return from a combat sortie.

Was this flight in connection with Convoy PQ-18? Is it possible that they were shot down in error?

Cheers
Brian

No. Capt. Lev Georgievich Puzhanov (95 AP, 1st Sq., - NOT IAP, since not a fighter!) and 1Lt. Dmitrii Ivanovich Fedorov (bombardier from 2nd Sq.) flew a Pe-3 (not Pe-2), lost orientation, ran out of fuel and crashed in, or near the Lopa...nka(?) river. Crew perished. Hope this helps.

According to the book Severnye konvoi (Northern convoys, vol.3) the mission of Puzhanov-Fedorov was in fact convoy protection! Their aircraft crashed near the Northern Dvina river. Another Pe-3 of the same unit (also indicated as 13 AP!) got also lost: Sn.Lt A.S. Rudakov and Lt A.N. Stukalov escaped by parachute 100 km north of Arkhangelsk.
