David C. Helton, gunner, 15th AF
https://www.newcomerkentuckiana.com/.../Louisville-KY
from Facebook: Allied Warbirds and Pilots of WWII We lost another Hero today. David C. Helton, 95! Joined at age 17, Ball Turret Gunner, B24s, Waist Gunner, B17s. 26 Missions over Germany. I knew him from the age of 4, his son David, my close friend. Mr. Helton never discussed his combat missions however his son & I would sneak and look at shoe boxes full of photographs. I remember reading notes from his B24 crew: Dave, never a worry with you behind the twin 50s! I wore his wings, given to my son 22 years ago, to his Service yesterday. He was buried with a full Honor Guard, including Taps. Blue Skies Mr. Helton, RIP and thank you for your Service!
