Oblt Hans-Joachim Gerlach 6/JG27 EKM

Hi all,

Does anyone have the NVM for the loss of Oblt Hans-Joachim Gerlach (DOB 26.09.10) StaKa 6./JG27 POW on 14.04.41?

I'm particularly after his EKM number.

In the Officer DB it states "01.12.39 Oblt./ trf from A./Fl.Ausb.Rgt.62 to II./JG 26 and appt StaKa 6./JG 27."

This statement doesn't add up as he became StaKa 6./JG 27 late 1940 after being in JG 2

Was he in JG 26 before that? His EKM should indicate which unit he was in around March 1940 or whether he was assigned a number later after a role in a training unit.

The EKM is for 6./JG 27 and with a late number of 23 looks like he was issued late 1940 in line with when he became Staka 6./JG 27.

Looks like the transfer date could possibly be 01.12.40 rather than 01.12.39?

Also, this puts in doubt Gerlach being in JG2 in 1940?

I have him with Stab II./JG 2 as Stellv Gr Kdr to 20 Aug 40. I wonder if Schellmann took him to JG 27 as I do have a photo of both of them on their departure

I was wondering if the JG 2 Hptm Gerlach was the same as the 8./JG27 Hptm Gerlach as first names are not always listed
