Ju88 NA+DJ lost 26 July 1940

Hi guys

I note that NA+DJ of 1./Erg.Gr.4 was lost on 26 July 1940, and that another from this unit was lost next day. I assume these were accidents?

Any information, please?

Cheers
Brian

Hello Brian,

First one , is

"Bei Bombenwurf zu spät abgefangen" so dont recover soon enought from ,probably, dive-bombing

Second one , most probably, is
ND+XC
"Maschine war aus Sturzflug nicht mehr aufzurichten" a bit the same, but this time we are sure about the dive, plane dont go thru from the dive .

All crew died, hv you detail of them ??

Re: Ju88 NA+DJ lost 26 July 1940

Hi guys

Thanks for that.

Crew details (via Matti) are:

Ltn Werner Urhatsch (pilot) NA+DJ
Obgfr Willy Brauker
Obgfr Karl-Heinz Klahr
Flg Herbert Degen

Ltn Robert Gessner (pilot) ND+XC
Fw Kurt Hirscher

Only two crew mentioned; other two(?) may have survived unhurt.

Obviously Erg.Gr.4 was an experimental unit (dive-bombing?) I wonder why the two aircraft crashed? Perhaps coincidental accidents.

Cheers
Brian

Re: Ju88 NA+DJ lost 26 July 1940

"NA+DJ" four crew killed, machine destroyed.

"ND+XC" is false, I think, should read as follows. "ND+CS" four crew killed, machine destroyed.

DVL accident files has this as "N.D.X.C.S.Ju 88", typed across two fields, whereby the X denotes the cross - namely ND+CS "Mas_ine war aus Sturzflug" (DVL)

Hi Ed

Many thanks.

However, you show Richter's aircraft crashing 21 July, whereas we were discussing Gessner's crash of 27 July. Confused!

Cheers

Re: Ju88 NA+DJ lost 26 July 1940

Had internet problem (at critical moment for replying)! So will check everything again.
Removed part of comment abowe, possibly other (three) a/c of Erg.KGr. 4 involved.

Last edited by edNorth; 19th September 2015 at 15:40. Reason: suspected further a/c of unit involved.
