Axis Fighter unit responsible for Allied losses December 2,1943

On December 2,1943, the 82nd FG lost two P-38s to Bf109s while on a B24 escort mission to the Bolzano Marshalling Yard. As far as I know, no Axis unit has been identified as being responssible. MAW4 does not have any further information.

Leo, Thanks for the information. I wonder why this was not specified in MAW4?

Hi

Because it involves a strategic raid, thus will be covered in Vol 6. Almost no strategic raids from the formation of the 15th Air Force are mentioned at all in Volume IV and wont be in Vol 5. ( exceptions being raids into the Aegean and Greece where they relate to Aegean matters.

Regards

Russell
