Re: Lost JU 88 24 March 1945
Does this one fit the bill the Discs for the Ff and Bf indicated 7/NJG4 while a FPN and A/C code indicated 8/NJG4, no wn reported to confirm whether or not this one was 712283. Could be the same operation on two different nights with both 3C+AR and 3C+AR lost near Wesel ?
'K' report 264/1945 gives the following Ju88 G-6 3C+CS 8/NJG4 crashed a few miles SW of Wesel at 2340hrs on 25th. March. Took Off Lippspringe 2300hrs to shoot up pontoon bridge and transport columns near Dinslaken and Rees. While crossing the Rhine north of Wesel on a westerly course port engine hit by AA and burst into flames. Crew baled out and the pilot tried to reach German Lines in civilian clothes - FF Fw Bruno Neuhauser, Bf Fw Erich Ries, Bm Fw Alfred Hudasch, Bs Uffz Rudolph Roth all POW with Ries shown as injured. |

Re: Lost JU 88 24 March 1945
Hi Matti, looking at the Nachtjagd War Diaries it shows III/NJG 4 on a ground attack mission prior to midnight on the 24th with the following crews Ltn Springer, Ltn Goebel, Ltn von ? name not llegible and Ltn Wittendorf. A second similar mission was flown in the early hours of the 25th with crews Hpt. Kurz, Ltn Richter and Ofhr Suckert. Additionally a Night Fighting mission was flown so its looks like you are correct with the Wittendorf/Mittendorf crew. The targets appear to be Buederich, Mehrum for the first attack and the Rees bridge for the second. Targets for III/NJG4 for the next night shown as Dinslaken/Rees as the 'K' report for 3C+CS,
