Losses over Malta on 5.july 1942

One more heavy day of steel-rain over Malta, but very few losses if any, heavy fights also for the fighters I.JG77+ II.JG53, seems just on the 5 to 6. night KG77 suffered a loss + an other one the day after..
Anything to add ???

Is there anything written on the Kgr.606 +806 ??

Re: Losses over Malta on 5.july 1942

I know I am a little late to this topic. But I hope participants will still follow the thread. I am working on a memoir with one of the survivors of this particular crash. I would like to know the source of the information you posted here and if the spelling of the name of the Hauptmann involved is correct. I like to add that by crossreferencing my information and some information in this forum I determined that one of the survivors of this crash died on February 2, 1943 during a mission http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showthread.php?p=102224
That person would be Karl Mach, who by the way was a relative of this gentleman http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernst_Mach

Re: Losses over Malta on 5.july 1942

As stated above, the source is Gen.Qu.6.Abt. (mfm #6)-Vol.10. It is always possible that the name spelling was done incorrectly by the unit clerk or it was later transcribed incorrectly.

Re: Losses over Malta on 5.july 1942

Hi thenhelm, do you have any information on the loss of the following aircrew for early july 1942 lost over Malta.

Oblt Behr 8.7.42
Lt Kleimeier 9.7.42
Uffz Schmitt 9.7.42

Any other further losses from this unit would be welcome, if possible.

Best regs,
Steve.

Hello Steve
nothing on Schmitt but according to Shores’ Malta: The Spitfire Year 1942 p. 402 around 0900 AA shot down Uffz. Herbert Schlitt’s 3Z+ET of 9/KG 77 which crashed in flames in Callus Street, Mosta with the loss of all the crew.
