Re: Oblt.Johannes Richter KG51 17.9.42

Hi

Flieger Horst Rehling was an experienced radio operator. He flew a lot of sorties, was highly decorated, but he remained Flieger. I believe that he flew in the 7./KG51 since the beginning of the Russian campaign.
Somewhere, I have another photo of him, also one with Fw.Heinz Paschen from the Oblt. Richter crew.

Hi Rene,

Cool pictures👍 I scrolled my data about KG 51, but I can't find the loss concerning Uffz. Honrich. By any chance, you don't have the full crew list and staffel number of this loss?
Kind regards.
Dirk

Re: Oblt.Johannes Richter KG51 17.9.42

Hi

Uffz.Adriani, Uffz.Gramberg and Uffz Honrich belonged to the crew of Oblt.Poppenburg. Gramberg and Adriani flew with Poppenburg since the GKFs Tutow 1940. Uffz.Honrich came in January 1942 to the crew. End of January 1943 the Poppenburg crew should be moved into the Reich to the KG101. Poppenburg left the III./KG51 and due to the war situation his crew had to fly missions with the new pilot Uffz Brehm. Uffz. Gramberg told me in 2002 that the third sortie with Brehm was the last. After an attack at Novorossiysk Brehm curved again over the target and the Ju88 got a hit in the right wing and burned. The attempt of the emergency landing on its own territory ended in a disaster. Only Gramberg survived, was mentally badly wounded despite minor injuries. Gramberg passed away in 2015.

Hi Rene, great to see these wonderful photos so thanks for sharing them with us.

On 23.8.42 when Poppenburg landed to rescue the crew of Mjr.Von Bibra, is it
known whether Adriani, Gramberg and Honrich were part of Poppenberg's crew
on this day?

Best regs,
Steve.

Hi Steve
I can not say 100% whether Poppenburg flew with this crew. Gramberg said about this that this was not a heroic act, it was often that crews were rescued by the own comrades. I believe that was these crew. On the picture you can see the 9K + AD, but the crews and aircraft changed.

Greetings, Rene

This photo is from Gramberg, the same situation.
