Trying to ID photos of two (or the same) Hurricane FL on Bearch in Dunkirk & "Malo-le-Bains" area?

Hello,

Can anyone help me ID these to Hurricane photos from eBay, which show one plane down at "Dunkirk" and the other down at a place called "Malo-le-Bains" France. They could show the opposite side of the same a/c. I find no "Malo-le-Bains" town in France, but there is an Ave.-les-Bains in Dunkirk. Who can help?

and:

Thanks for any help.

Regards,

Larry,

"Malo" is in the surburb of Dunkerque. This town attached at Dunkerque in 1969.

Hi Larry
Confirm, Malo is Dunkirk's area north of the harbour, close and along the beach.
I lived there for some years.

Thierry

Re: Trying to ID photos of two (or the same) Hurricane FL on Bearch in Dunkirk & "Malo-le-Bains" area?

Hello,
I find the first picture shows a "tide Mark" on the tail section, so either the photo was taken a while after the crash or there was something in the water to cause the colour change. The a/c has a tail wheel and whole prop blade.
Second picture shows an aircraft without tail wheel , no upper fuselage spine and a broken prop blade.
Would the blade be so damaged by the sea/weather or by a ship passing over the aircraft at high tide ? If not then i would suggest that these photos are of two different Hurricanes.

BTW, Has any list of Hurricanes downed on the beaches at Dunkirk been produced as there has for Spitfires ?
How about German a/c or other combatant nations a/c ?
I seem to recal a picture of a Hurricane almost side by side with a Me109, but was it at Dunkirk ?

Thanks
Alex

The picture of the Bf109E and the Hurricane close by was from Crete 1941.

Could it be P2902 salvaged at Leffrinckoucke ?

Leffrinckoucke is the next Dunkerque area, close to Malo, still along the beach, when going north from the harbour.

Re: Trying to ID photos of two (or the same) Hurricane FL on Bearch in Dunkirk & "Malo-le-Bains" area?

Hi,

The Hurricane which was mentioned on the E-bay photo as “ Bei Dünkirchen “ crashed in the direction parallel with the coast and so is the Hurricane which crashed at Leffrinckkoucke. Some buildings can be seen at the left of the E-bay photo, is this a part of Dunkerque port ?
Perhaps the Leffrinckkoucke Hurricane is the aircraft on the E-bay photo “ Bei Dünkirchen “ ?

The Hurricane which was mentioned on the E-bay photo as “ Malo-le-Bains” crashed in another direction : from the sea flying to the coast.

Looking forward to receive your comments !

Best regards from Belgium

Luc

Hello,
Thank you for the reminder of Crete Kaki.
AB has P2902 as SOC 10th August 1940 with 245 Sqdn.
No problem with that except
Norman Franks in his Revised vol of FCLosses 1939-1941 has
N2702 - 17th May 40 - F/L nr Dieppe - Sgt R E W Jarrett safe.
and
N2702 - 31st May 40 - F/L Dunkirk - P/O K B McGlashan safe returned by sea.
Could it be that McGlashan's a/c was P2902 ??
245 Sqdn losses in early 1940 I find -
18-4-40 - N2470 - Pilot ?
16-5-40 - N2559 - Pilot ? East Lothian.
17-5-40 - N2501 - P/O J. S. Southwell S/D c/l nr Petit Enghien - safe.
17-5-40 - N2702 - Sgt R E W Jarrett F/L nr Dieppe - safe.
31-5-40 - N2702 - P/O K B McGlashan F/L Dunkirk - safe rtnd by sea.
SOC 5-40 - N2595
Lost 5-40 - N2453
1-6-40 - N2658 - P/O A L Treanor +
1-6-40 - N2709 - P/O R A West +
14-6-40 ? serial - Pilot ?
28-7-40 - N2593 - cr Aldergrove. pilot ?
10-8-40 SOC P2902
7-10-40 N2707 - DBF - P/O J F I Beedham +
21-10-40 - P3657 - Sgt E G Greenwood +
