29-30 August 1944 Köningsberg raid Nachtjagd claims queries

Dear all,

I am trying to clarify a number of Nachtjagd claims that were submitted during the 29-30 August 1944 Königsberg raid, who can help me to pin-point the places/locations that are mentioned in the following Nachtjagd claims. NB: most of these victory claims are presumably located in the greater Königsberg/Kaliningrad area:

Oblt. Dieter Barth: 1 Eins. St. Ostpreussen NJG102 Lancaster 4 km S. Jesau 01.17 Königsberg raid, unidentified. Note: victory confirmed on 10.10.1944

Oblt. Rolf Bussmann: 19 10./NJG5 Lancaster W. Cranz, i. Zus. Schw.: 2.400 m. 01.21 unidentified. Note: achieved in co-operation with searchlight(s), victory confirmed on 17.12.1944

Lt. Oberle: 2 Eins. St. Ostpreussen NJG102 Lancaster 1 km W. Gallgerhuen 01.31 unidentified. Note: victory confirmed on 10.10.1944

Hptm. Rudolf Altendorf: 26 Stab IV./NJG5 Lancaster Hegeberg, 400 m. W. Drugehnen, 20 km NW Köningsberg, i. Zusarb. Schw.: 2.600 m. 01.39 unidentified. Note: coned by 4./Flakscheinw. Abt. 378, victory confirmed by OKL on 10.10.1944

Lt. Oberle: 3 Eins. St. Ostpreussen NJG102 Lancaster SW Palmnicken, i. Zusarb. Schw. 01.53 unidentified. Note: achieved in co-operation with searchlight(s), victory confirmed on 17.12.1944

Oblt. Dieter Barth: 2 Eins. St. Ostpreussen NJG102 Lancaster W. Zielheim, i. Zusarb. Schw. 01.55 Note: victory achieved in co-operation with searchlight(s)

Fw. Otto Hiller: 3 12./NJG5 4-mot 5-25 km S. Siebenbäu, SW Lübeck (BB 1 or 4, i. Zusarb. Schw.): 2.500 m. 01.58 unidentified. Note: victory achieved in co-operation with searchlight(s), claim confirmed on 17.12.1944

Cheers and thanks, Theo

Cheers and thanks for posting the Gazetteer -most useful! Alast for a few I failed to get a matching place name (Gallgerhuen, Zielheim and Siebenbäu). These may well concern misspellings in the first place ..

Best regards, Theo

Playing with the names Zielkeim instead of Zielheim looks a good bet

Siebenbäumen, is SW Lübeck, but the one in Schleswig Holstein, not E Prussia

Total long shot Galtgarben instead of Gallgerhuen

Hi Martin,

Yes the Zielkeim appears to fit the bill, thanks for that.

I have adapted the 29-30 August 1944 Fw. Hiller claim of 01.58 hrs as follows, but found no matching B.C. loss:

Fw. Otto Hiller: 3 12./NJG5 4-mot 2-12 km W. Mölln, SSW Lübeck (BB 1 or 4, i. Zusarb. Schw.): 2.500 m. 01.58 unidentified. Note: victory achieved in co-operation with searchlight(s), claim confirmed on 17.12.1944

Cheers, Theo
