Messerschmitt 109 crash in Grootebroek
Hi all,
On the 22nd of September 1943 A 109 piloted by Uffz. Gustav Frey crashed in the town of Grootebroek, Holland. Now 3 members of the Aircraft Recovery Group 40/45 including me have started an investegation on what happened with the plane. So far we've interviewed 13 or 14 eyewitnesses including the 93 year old women who used to live in the house where the 109 crashed. But all of there stories have one thing in common, there saying that on the 22nd of September 1943 a massive formation of bombers flew over Grootebroek. All of the people are saying that they are American bombers but on the 22nd there wasn't any US bomber activity in Holland only a group of P-47's near Utrecht. Can anyone help us out? maybe there were German bombers heading for England? or are all of the witnesses having mixed memories? Greetings from Holland, Calvin Krancher http://www.arg1940-1945.nl/ |

Re: Messerschmitt 109 crash in Grootebroek
Might this be a mix up between the crashes of Uffz. Gustav Frey and Oblt. Herwig Zuzic? Zuzic (12./JG 1) crashed with his Fw-190 (Werknr. 0586) in Grotebroek on 26 February 1943.
