I cannot say for Belgrade but stealing of museum collections, illegal recoveries, cheating on deals and subsequent smuggling is not unheard of here. Mind you, that several museums or institutions here cannot afford to recover property by means of legal action.

We need to be careful here. What the Indians "claim" and the reality of the situation may well be very different.

Might I hesitatingly suggest that we stick to the subject of Larry's first question;

Yes, it arrived in the UK and is in private storage.

Yes, it has been positively identified as set out above.

I am merely trying to steer forum discussion away from something which may well be contentious, potentially litigious and - in any event - will only fuel idle speculation without access to the real facts of the matter by those making such posts.

Take this as a "public service" posting!!!

Andy
I really do not see any point in being silent about the subject, especially as the information about the deal is available in public, for anyone able to use google, eg. here. I presume Jagan may provide us with the latest details about the case.

It is not related, but I am awared of losses to the heritage of countries of our region (ie. Eastern Europe) caused by various 'collectors' and 'dealers', and I can imagine they would not like to have it discussed.

What is already out there on the net is out there. However, much if not all of it is certainly speculation. A while ago a famous English "newspaper" carried a story: "London Bus Found on Moon". Because that statement was made did not make it true, of course!

I was merely sounding a cautionary note. I know that this matter is, or has been, a contentious issue and has been so on other forums to the extent that pressure was placed, I think legally, to remove those posts. There is a difference between discussion based on fact and that which is based on speculation.

All I am doing here is holding up a sign saying "Proceed With Caution!"

Well, I cannot call a number of photos a speculation if we want to play it that way. The case is crystal clear though. Certain owner in UK is accused by certain people in India to illegally remove their heritage. I note, that Jagan may have all the latest details from the Indian side.

An interesting feature of this airframe is that it has a blanked-off panel replacing the triangular quarter light perspex that forms stb lower front part of the front screen assembly. Other photos I have seen show this as a ribbed steel plate with an aperture for a flare pistol. It can be seen, just, on one of the photos on Jagan's links.

Also interesting in that it has a capped spinner cone.

Here are the pictures Phil send me. Since he has problems posting them, I'll do it for him:

I second the call to be very careful about English (British?) libel laws. It has been said, not excessively cynically in my non-legal opinion, that telling the truth is not sufficient defense.
