8 June 1941: D.520 shot down by Fulmar

Hi guys

Who can help?

On 8 June 1941, off the Syrian coast, a Fulmar of 803 Squadron shot down a D.520 of GCIII/6 flown by Lt Martin.

1) Who were the Fulmar crew?

2) What is Lt Martin's full name?

Cheers
Brian

Well Brian

Looking in Shores book Dust clouds in the Middle East, it seems no Fulmar pilot claimed any victory. In fact the victory was awarded to the 15th Cruiser Squadron AA guns.

Can't say if any new info has appeared since, but at least that was the standpoint in 1995 when the book was written.

Cheers
Stig

Thanks Alain and Stig

I have a copy of 'Dust Clouds' - in which it is recorded that Martin's No.2 Brondel reported that Martin had been shot down by a fighter.

Cheers

That's true Brian

But if you read the whole passage, you will also see that this was the French pilots opinion, but obviously not the Royal Navy's...

Cheers
Stig
