Re: 1.(F)/123 against Spitfires on 3 May 1942

Hello Laurent et al.
I was away for a break so this is the first opportunity to get at my notes.
1.(F)/123 was involved in the early morning sortie to Barrow in Furnace on the north- west coast of England and to route over Merseyside on the return flight.

Ju88 D-5 W.Nr. 430005 4U+UL (as confirmed by Matti and Ed) from 3.(F)/123 was involved in the Cape de Hague late evening incident with 308 Polish Squadron.

The 1.(F)/123 crew was Lt Paul Stormer (O with umlat) Oblt. Gottfried Berndt B, Ofw.Karl Hund Bf and Uffz. Josef Reiser Bm. The Ju88 may have been the 4U+DH but I would welcome the correct identification and werke nummer.
Ofw. Karl Hund did receive a slight wound but he was not out of action, only angrier. The pink tracer was part of the mixture assembled meticulously by Hund for his armament.

The combat took the Ju88 and Spitfires to within sight of the Irish coast before the Spitfires withdrew low on fuel and out of ammunition.

Sgt. K D Bassett was Blue 1 Spitfire V AB148 and P/O Lamberton Blue 2 Spitfire V AD537 UD-R. 452 RAAF Sqn. based at Andreas, Isle of Man.
315 Polish Sqn. based at Woodvale with a detachment at Valley scrambled two Spitfires F/O Wyrozemski in AA943 and F/O Stembrowicz in AB241 the former pilot was two minutes late taking off so he missed the combat.
