Rare C-47 and US Pathfinder colour film - June 5th 1944

Discovered in the US National Archives around 20 years ago.

Shot on the early evening of June 5th 1944 at RAF Grantham (Spitalgate) of US C-47 IX Troop Carrier Command aircraft including the first to lead the 200 man Pathfinder force; C-47 #293098. (not to be confused with 'That's All Brother!' which led the main force later that evening) piloted by LtCol Joel Crouch. Also shows the 18 man unit of Capt Frank Lillyman, who was the first US soldier to land in Normandy 2hrs 18 minutes after the final shot which shows his C-47 leaving at 9.54pm. The film has narration and original inserts.

Well worth the 5 minutes. Hope it is of interest.

Thanks Phil. Some interesting bits for the markings enthusiasts; the Medium Green patches on the tail, roughly-painted invasion bands (probably a wide brush, they also used rags and brooms to get the job done) and red serial. Not unique as they can be seen on certain batches eg. 42-92684, 43-15803, 43-15366, 43-48804, either the whole serial or part of ( actually specified for black-finished night fighters).
