Luftwaffe ground crew / mechanics uniform color

Dear All,

I will be color correcting some color photos and am not quite sure if the Luftwaffe ground crew / mechanics uniforms were dark charcoal or whether they had a tinge of blue in them. Further, what color was the officer's cap?

Thanks in advance for your inputs.

Warmest regards,
Richard

Re: Luftwaffe ground crew / mechanics uniform color

Hi Richard,

Items owned by one of my long term ex Luftwaffe contacts would be my source. He was an NCO and his peaked cap and M43 cap were regular Luftwaffe blue grey but his workplace uniform was actually black overalls. His regular uniform was standard Luftwaffe. I daresay that in pictures the black would appear more charcoal grey. There was definitely not even a hint of blue in the overalls.

Hope this may help, there may have been/probably were, variations!

Regards

David

Re: Luftwaffe ground crew / mechanics uniform color

Dear David,

Thanks, that helps a lot. The cap in question is a billed officer's cap. In the one photo, this looks as dark as the jump suits. The jump suits have a slight bluish cast, but this could be erroneous to the slide, so I can go ahead and balance them to neutral, which should balance the pictures as a whole.

Warmest regards,
Richard

Richard,

Radio mechanics wore white overalls. Just in case you wonder on the odd photo who the bod is wearing something completely different!
