Ju-88 G-1 lost 6/7 august 1944

Hi

In that night, the Ju-88 G-1 Wnr 710596 (4R-RN) of 5/NJG2:Oblt.Hans Dieter HOLZHAUSEN,Fw.Adam MAYER,Uffz.Helmut SCHAUB was shot down by a night fighter and crashed on a PANTHER of the SS-Panzer-Regiment 1!!(Longueveille-2 km of Saint-Clement-Rancoudray,6 km of MORTAIN) blocking the PANTHER Column for 2 hours during the famous counterattack of MORTAIN.

Who claimed victories in that region, that night?

Thanks in advance
Best Regards

Michel

Hello Michel,

Interesting posting, thanks for sharing these details, but what is your primary source for this Ju88 loss on 6-7.8.44?

Best regards, Theo

Hi Ed,

As usual, thanks for the great information.

If only for accuracy, I believe the correct Motornummer for the Ju 88 G-1 loss in question is: 327164.

Respectfully,

Steve Sheflin

"Based at Coulumier"

I'd guess that should be Coulommiers.

Thanks Ed for the useful additional info! Would you be so kind as to post a link to the French homepage about Brittany area wrecks and relics?

Cheers, Theo

Re: Ju-88 G-1 lost 6/7 august 1944

Theo and others

The french magazine Normandie 1944 n°25

For those who can not get the magazine:I summarize.

In the night of 6/7 august 1944,about fifteen inhabitants and refugees were awakened around mindnight (french time)by the fall of a bomber on two PANTHERS (SS-PANZER 1).

on their return from exodus, they found the calcined body of one of the crew members.

Excavations carried out in 2000 revealed pieces of Ju-88 (armored pilot seat) in the middle of pieces of PANTHER.

My question:Who shot down a Ju-88 in the region?
Michel
